Thank you for visiting our web page for Middle School, Grades 6, 7 & 8!
Our middle-school classes traditionally meet on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8pm, in the parish hall, approximately two times a month. There is a large-group and a small-group component in each session. Currently our program uses Pflaum Gospel Weeklies, a curriculum based on each Sunday's gospel readings, the teachings of the Catholic church and inspiring stories of contemporary saints-heroes. "Venture" is used for grade 6; "Vision" is used for grades 7 and 8.
Our primary goal at these grade levels is to help our students grow in friendship with our Lord, Jesus, who wants, more than anything, to have a close relationship with each of us. We work to help our students respond generously to this invitation. One of the ways we will do so is by helping the students develop a strong habit of prayer. We also help the students learn more about Jesus through the study of Scripture and engagement in service.
We ask all students in Grades 6, 7 & 8 to complete six hours of service to the less fortunate. The Church calls these acts of service the Works of Mercy, a direct way for us to bring Christ out into the community and to encounter Him in those to whom we minister. The Corporal Works of Mercy are those that help provide for peoples' physical needs, and the Spiritual Works of Mercy are those that provide for peoples' spiritual needs. Students will be asked to log their service and to submit it, with a reflection, at the middle and end of the year. Please find that log and other important program documents below. Thank you!
